2. How We Use Personal Data
We use personal data to:
- provide and operate the Services;
- process payments, orders, delivery, returns, exchanges, refunds, and customer accounts;
- communicate about orders, appointments, enquiries, service messages, and support requests;
- schedule and conduct video or virtual shopping consultations;
- provide features such as order tracking, wishlists, comparisons, reviews, product videos, and currency display;
- personalise the Site and recommend relevant products, where permitted;
- send offers, newsletters, back-in-stock messages, or other marketing where you have consented or where otherwise permitted by law;
- measure Site performance, understand customer journeys, improve our products and Services, and troubleshoot technical issues;
- detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our terms;
- maintain business, tax, accounting, warranty, and transaction records;
- establish, exercise, or defend legal claims and respond to lawful requests; and
- comply with applicable legal and regulatory obligations.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process personal data:
- to perform a contract with you or take steps you request before entering into a contract;
- with your consent, which you may withdraw at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing;
- to comply with a legal obligation; or
- for our legitimate interests, such as operating and improving our business, securing the Services, preventing fraud, and responding to customers, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.
We do not use personal data for a new incompatible purpose without providing any notice or obtaining any consent required by law.
3. How We Disclose Personal Data
We may disclose personal data only as reasonably necessary to:
- Shopify: Our store is hosted by Shopify, which processes store, account, device, order, and transaction data to provide ecommerce, checkout, hosting, security, analytics, and related services. Shopify may independently process data when you use Shopify consumer services such as Shop or Shop Pay. See the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy.
- Payment providers and financial institutions: To authorise payments, prevent fraud, issue refunds, and resolve payment disputes. Depending on the payment method selected, these may include Razorpay, PayPal, card networks, banks, and other payment services displayed at checkout.
- Delivery, logistics, and order-tracking providers: To fulfil and track orders, manage delivery, customs, returns, or exchanges, and communicate delivery updates.
- Technology and store-app providers: To provide hosting, customer accounts, product videos, reviews, Instagram or social-content feeds, currency conversion, appointment or consultation booking, video calls, order tracking, customer support, fraud prevention, and Site functionality. Store tools may include Vizup, Avada Order Tracking, NOVA Currency Converter, ShopGracias, scheduling or video-call services, Meta services, and other applications shown during your interaction.
- Analytics and performance providers: To understand and improve use of the Site. Depending on configuration and your consent choices, these may include Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager, Microsoft Clarity, Hotjar, and Contentsquare.
- Marketing and advertising providers: To manage communications, measure campaigns, or deliver relevant advertising where permitted by law and consistent with your consent or opt-out choices.
- Professional advisers: Such as accountants, auditors, insurers, lawyers, and consultants who are subject to confidentiality duties.
- Authorities and other lawful recipients: When required by law, court order, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, property, and security of customers, Janardhana Silk House, or others.
- Business transaction participants: In connection with a proposed or completed merger, financing, reorganisation, sale, or transfer of all or part of our business, subject to appropriate safeguards.
- Recipients you direct: When you ask us to disclose information or consent to a particular disclosure.
Our providers may use personal data only in accordance with their agreements, their own legal obligations, and their privacy notices. Third-party sites and services are controlled by their respective operators, and their privacy practices are not governed by this Policy.
Payment services
If you choose Razorpay, PayPal, or another payment option, the selected provider receives information needed to process and secure the transaction. This may include your name, contact details, billing information, transaction amount, device or fraud-prevention information, and payment credentials. The provider may process that data as an independent business under its own legal obligations and privacy notice. Please review the Razorpay Privacy Policy, Razorpay Buyer Privacy Notice, and PayPal India Privacy Statement, as applicable.
We ordinarily receive the transaction result, payment method, identifiers, and limited payment details needed to manage the order. We do not intentionally store complete card numbers or card security codes on our own systems.
Video-call scheduling and consultations
When you request a video or virtual shopping consultation, we and the scheduling or video-call provider may process your name, email address, phone number, preferred time, time zone, appointment details, and information you choose to discuss or show during the call. We use this information to arrange the appointment, provide the consultation, follow up on your request, and maintain appropriate service records.
We do not record the audio or video of a consultation unless we first clearly tell participants and obtain any consent required by law. If a particular booking or call provider processes data for its own purposes, its privacy notice will be made available through the relevant booking or call interface.
WhatsApp messaging
If you contact us through WhatsApp or expressly opt in to WhatsApp communications, we and WhatsApp may process your mobile number, profile information made available through WhatsApp, message content, attachments, message status, consent status, and interaction metadata. We use this information to respond to enquiries, provide order or service updates, and—only where you have opted in—send offers, product launches, or promotional broadcasts.
WhatsApp is operated by Meta and processes information under the WhatsApp Privacy Policy. If we use a WhatsApp Business solution provider to manage messages or broadcasts, that provider may also process the information on our behalf.
Providing a telephone number for delivery or checkout does not by itself mean that you have agreed to promotional WhatsApp broadcasts. You can stop promotional WhatsApp messages at any time by replying STOP, asking us to unsubscribe you, or contacting us using the details below. Service messages that are necessary to complete an order may still be sent where permitted.
Behaviour analytics and session replay
Subject to your consent choices and applicable law, we use Microsoft Clarity, Hotjar, Contentsquare, and Google analytics tools to understand how visitors use the Site. These tools may collect device and browser information, approximate location, referral information, pages visited, clicks, taps, scrolling, navigation paths, errors, and reconstructed session or heatmap events.
Session replay is a visual reconstruction based on page content and interaction events; it is not a camera recording of you. We do not use these tools to intentionally collect passwords, complete payment-card details, or the contents of sensitive form fields. We use available masking, suppression, access, and consent controls to reduce the collection of personal or sensitive content.
For more information, see Microsoft Clarity Data Privacy, Hotjar’s Privacy Policy, and Contentsquare’s Privacy Center.
Instagram and other social content
The Site may display an Instagram feed, social posts, or sharing features supplied by Meta or another social provider. When embedded content loads—or when you interact with it—the provider may receive your IP address, device and browser information, cookie identifiers, the page visited, and details of the interaction, even if you do not click through to the social network. Where required, we load non-essential social-media Cookies or embeds only after consent. Meta’s processing is described in the Meta Privacy Policy.
4. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We and our providers use cookies, pixels, tags, local storage, and similar technologies (“Cookies”). Cookies may:
- keep the Site and checkout secure and functioning;
- remember your cart, country, currency, account, wishlist, comparison list, and preferences;
- measure traffic, Site performance, and customer journeys;
- help us understand whether content and campaigns are effective; and
- support personalisation or advertising where enabled and legally permitted.
Cookie categories
| Category | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Security, network management, checkout, cart, account access, fraud prevention, and other functions required to provide the Site |
| Functional | Remembering choices such as currency, region, wishlist, comparison list, and other preferences |
| Analytics or performance | Measuring visits, clicks, scrolling, heatmaps, session-replay events, errors, and Site performance to improve the Services |
| Advertising or targeting | Measuring campaigns, limiting repetition, or showing relevant advertising, where enabled |
Where required, we obtain consent before using non-essential Cookies. You can accept, reject, or change available choices through the Site’s cookie banner or Cookie preferences control. You can also restrict Cookies in your browser; doing so may prevent parts of the Site from working correctly.
See our Cookie Policy for provider and category details.
Some wishlist and comparison selections are stored in your browser’s local storage. You can remove them by clearing the feature, clearing Site data in your browser, or using a private browsing session.
Analytics tools may offer additional opt-outs. For example, you may use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or Hotjar Do Not Track where applicable. If the Site provides a Contentsquare opt-out link, activating it records an opt-out for that browser. These provider controls supplement rather than replace the Site’s cookie preferences.
5. Marketing Communications
We send promotional email, SMS, WhatsApp broadcasts, or similar communications only where permitted. You can unsubscribe at any time by using the link in an email, replying STOP to an applicable message, asking us to remove you from a WhatsApp broadcast list, changing available account preferences, or contacting us. We maintain appropriate records of marketing preferences and opt-outs. We may still send non-promotional messages needed to complete transactions, provide support, or administer your account.
Our WhatsApp Communications Policy explains channel-specific choices.
Withdrawing marketing consent does not automatically delete order or account records that we must or are permitted to retain.
6. Sale, Sharing, and Targeted Advertising
We do not sell personal data for money. Some privacy laws use “sale”, “sharing”, or “targeted advertising” broadly and may include certain disclosures involving advertising Cookies or cross-context behavioural advertising.
Where these laws apply, you may opt out through any Your privacy choices, Do not sell or share my personal information, or similar control made available on the Site. We also honour browser-based opt-out preference signals, such as Global Privacy Control, where required by law and technically supported. You may contact us if you cannot find an applicable control.
We do not knowingly sell or share the personal data of children for targeted advertising.
7. International Data Transfers
We are based in India, but Shopify and other providers may process personal data in India, Canada, Singapore, the United States, countries in the European Economic Area, or other locations where they or their subprocessors operate.
Those countries may have data-protection laws different from those where you live. Where required, we or our providers use recognised safeguards for international transfers, such as adequacy decisions, contractual protections, or other lawful transfer mechanisms. You may contact us for more information about safeguards relevant to your data.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to:
- provide an account or complete a transaction;
- maintain tax, accounting, customs, warranty, and business records;
- manage returns, disputes, chargebacks, fraud, and security;
- comply with legal obligations; and
- establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Retention periods vary according to the type of data, the nature of our relationship, legal requirements, limitation periods, and technical backup cycles. When data is no longer required, we delete or anonymise it, or securely isolate it until deletion is possible. Deleting an account or withdrawing consent may not require us to delete information that we must retain by law or for another lawful purpose.
9. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal data, including access controls, secure service providers, and encrypted transmission where appropriate. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
You are responsible for keeping account credentials confidential. If you believe that your account or interaction with us is no longer secure, please contact us promptly.
10. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live and subject to applicable exceptions, you may have the right to:
- obtain information about how we process your personal data;

- withdraw consent;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- request portability of data you provided;
- opt out of direct marketing, targeted advertising, sale, or sharing;
- nominate another person to exercise rights where applicable;
- lodge a grievance or complaint; and
- appeal a decision we make about a privacy request.
To exercise a right, email info@janardhanasilk.com with the subject Privacy Request. Describe your request and the email address or order details connected with your interaction. We may need to verify your identity and authority before acting. An authorised representative may submit a request where permitted, but we may require proof of authorisation.
We will respond within the period required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right. If we cannot fulfil a request, we will explain the reason where legally required.
You may also use Shopify’s privacy controls for personal data Shopify processes independently in connection with Shopify consumer services.
11. Additional Information for Users in the EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland
If the laws of the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland apply, you may exercise the rights described above and may complain to the data-protection authority in the country where you live, work, or believe an infringement occurred.
When we rely on legitimate interests, you may request information about our balancing assessment. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Where processing is necessary for a contract, declining to provide required data may prevent us from completing an order or providing the requested Service.
12. Additional Information for Residents of Certain United States Jurisdictions
If an applicable U.S. state privacy law covers our processing, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, or obtain a portable copy of personal data and to opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or certain profiling. You may also have the right to appeal our response.
The categories of personal data collected, sources, purposes, and recipients are described in Sections 1–3. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal data to infer characteristics about you. 13. Children’s Privacy
The Services are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children. You must be legally capable of entering into a purchase or use the Services with the involvement of a parent or lawful guardian.
We do not knowingly collect personal data from a child in a manner prohibited by law. If you believe a child has provided personal data without required parental consent, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
14. Third-Party Links and Social Features
The Site may link to or embed social networks, Instagram feeds, payment services, delivery providers, scheduling tools, video-call platforms, maps, WhatsApp, or other third-party services. If you load embedded content, follow a link, or interact with a third-party feature, that provider may collect data under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review the relevant notice before providing personal data.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes to our Services, providers, practices, or legal obligations. The revised version will be posted on this page with an updated date. Where required, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before a material change takes effect.
